Tournament Report Hello everyone once again, During the Valentine day weekend, we had ESDAA division 1 tournament at Lexington School for the Deaf in Jackson Heights, NY. We played against Pennsylvania School for the Deaf. They played without their best player, Brian Wimberly. During the first half, we had taken huge lead over them then second half, Kelly Sanders, a freshman from PSD got 27 points and made them comeback and took 42-38 lead. Our team wasn’t give up, made final four points to tying with them, took us to overtime, and won the game 48 to 42. Benjamin Letendre from our school got 21 points and he helped our offense keep hot. We advanced to semi-finals and played the host Lexington School for the Deaf. They had beaten us in the Clerc Classic IX tournament. They had strong inside scoring team. We made into the overtime. Lexington School for the Deaf had won the tip-off and they decided to freeze the time clock from four minutes to 36 seconds. They called the timeout then one of my players, Wilson Velez III stole their point guard and the ball was loose: Wilson was dive for the ball and calls the timeout. Wilson was outbound pass and accidentally his pass was stolen but Angel Ortiz from Lexington called the timeout while they had their timeouts ran out. The referees called a technical foul and Benjamin Letendre made free throw and won the game 38 to 37. We advanced into the championship game for the first time in TLC division 1 history. However, unfortunately we lost to the Maryland School for the Deaf 61-35. We were down by one by the end of the fist quarter and down by eight during the halftime. Our substitutions were not that great so our starters are start falling apart and we are proud of us with small high school enrollment compare to the Maryland School for the Deaf. Our best parts of the tournament are that we are runner up of the tournament and won the sportsmanship award. In addition, the players saw some of their old friends from the past. Before the tournament had begun, our players thought that we would win the third place but we were wrong after the Lexington game and also we never thought that we would win the sportsmanship award. Once the tournament was over and we had one game left and one hearing league playoffs. Three players of our school were selected All Tournament Team and they are Wilson Velez III, Justin Carrus, and Benjamin Letendre. We were proud of ourselves due to our performance during the tournament. Supposed we got our three key players from last season return to this season and we would have play much better than this tournament. They are Daniel Letendre, Timothy Irvin Jr., and Andrew Velez. They are one of main reasons why we won the division 2 championship last season but their academic are really hurt them this year. We played the hearing league playoffs division A against Boston Trinity Academy and we lost 88-40. They are so strong team with their many tall players. We knew that they wont be that easy for me but it was a good experience for us. So therefore, our final record is 14-12. Thanks
